Summary:
Provides assistance to professional educators, counselors, social workers, and others by performing a variety of academic and non-academic instruction-related and/or counseling or guidance support tasks; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree, Associates Degree, or certificate with a minimum score of 459 on the ParaPro Assessment. Experience working with children. Eligibility determined by the Department of Education.

Desired competencies include self-motivation; enthusiasm; collaboration; high work standards; critical thinking; creativity; flexibility; and initiative.

EA III assignments may require travel to multiple sites on a daily basis. Daily access to a vehicle, car insurance, and valid driver license are required.

Work Hours:
FTE .75 - 30 hours week. Schedule to be determined based on classroom and school needs. Occasional travel may be required.

Compensation: According to applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Assistant School Director

Summary:

 The Assistant School Director oversees management of the day to day operations of the school in accordance with Governing Board policies and administrative rules and regulations and assists the School Director in providing strategic and instructional leadership for the school. This position is responsible for the following key areas:  Leadership, Administration Management, Operations Management, Student Management, Safety and Health, School Culture, Athletics Management, Human Resources Management, Professional Conduct, Communication, and Reporting and Board Relations.

Education, Experience and Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Education preferred with minimum of 3-5 years of successful school leadership experience and 5 years successful teaching experience preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Valid Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB) license preferred.  Knowledge of Hawaii laws and regulations for public schools and charter schools, budget development and management, and implementation of standards-based curriculum and educational reform models.

Must be ethical and honest.  Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, time management, follow-through, and oral and written communication skills. Must be extremely flexible and able to work independently.  Must be knowledgeable and comfortable working with technology and software programs, and be able to acquire additional skills for use of software, databases or other information systems as necessary.

Must be able to meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources in and effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others.  Must be able to successfully analyze information, manage complexity, report results, enter data, and observe school and district policies as well as state and federal laws with attention to detail, confidentiality, and thoroughness.  Must accept responsibility and be self-motivated.  Must maintain a high level of confidentiality with regard to employees, students and parents and work effectively with school staff, district personnel, and the general public.

School Counselor (K-12)

Summary:

The School Counselor helps students to develop skills in the areas of personal/social growth, educational planning, and career and vocational development.  The major activities include counseling; student appraisal; consultation with school personnel, parents and community agencies; college and career transitions; coordination with other programs and resources in and outside of HAAS; and program evaluation and planning.

Education, Experience and Qualifications:

Valid Hawaii Teacher Standards Board School Counselor license.

Prior relevant counseling experience.

Experience managing 504 cases.

Training and Experience:  Graduation from an accredited college or university upon completion of a state-approved graduate school counseling and guidance program; or completion of a state-approved graduate school counseling and guidance program, both of which meeting National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) or state standards and include a practicum, internship or equivalent in a school setting.

Knowledge of: Current principles, practices, techniques and objectives of school counseling and guidance, educational philosophy and psychology; ethics and standards of the American School Counseling Association; educational tests, measurements and statistics; research methods; and community health, social and employment resources.

Ability to:  Relate well to people; relate to the problems and concerns of the students, parents, colleagues, school administration, and the community; maintain a high level of integrity with regard to matters which may be considered to be confidential in nature; and develop and coordinate programs in problem-solving and interpersonal relationships.

Head Coach - Varsity Girls Volleyball (High School)

Head Coach - Junior Varsity Girls Volleyball (High School)

Temporary positions for the duration of the sport season

Summary:  Head Coaches for girls Varsity and Junior Varsity (JV) volleyball to coach practices and matches played through Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF).  Varsity coach will serve as assistant coach for JV and JV coach will serve as assistant coach for Varsity.   Volleyball season is August through November.

Qualifications:  Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations of the sport and as it pertains to BIIF.  Experience managing, mentoring and directing students.  Valid CPR and First Aid training.  Valid Driver License and satisfactory Traffic Abstract.  Prior coaching experience desired.

Tech Support Coordinator

Full Time

Summary

 The Tech Support Coordinator performs general network maintenance on LAN relating to users, contexts, and network devices; assists in DNS issues as well as server and infrastructure upgrades and expansions; assists IT Director with network troubleshooting and maintaining data integrity; and other duties as assigned.

 

Education, Experience and Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field plus (2) years of computer experience working with networking infrastructure and WAN networks (Microsoft Certifications), OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

  1. Flexible work schedules, occasional evening and weekend work.
  2. Working knowledge of LAN and WAN topologies and architecture, including Multi Vlan architecture. Must be able to construct, operate and maintain LAN and WAN Networks.
  3. A complete knowledge of Gigabit and Ethernet topology interfacing with network IP phone systems. Must be able to research and solve associated problems.
  4. A complete knowledge of network equipment such as switches, routers, hubs, and associated equipment and how to construct and maintain networks.
  5. Working knowledge of Server and PC operating systems - such as Windows 2012 r2, Linux Server, PC operating systems (Windows 7, 10).
  6. Must have knowledge of Firewall servers and basic rule setting programming.
  7. Understands, installs and configures network equipment utilizing varied protocols such as: TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, Microsoft protocols and NMS.
  8. Must have a working knowledge of IP Telephony and QOS service implementation for network based phone system
  9. Working knowledge PC hardware and components including processors, mother boards, accessories, cards, peripherals.
  10. Working knowledge of PC/LAN application software including word processing (Word or WordPerfect), spreadsheets, E-Mail (Lotus Notes and Outlook), some administration in database management and development tools. Must be able to install, configure, and administer those systems.
